Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act 1900 (Imperial)
The Act of the Imperial Parliament at Westminster that established the Commonwealth of Australia and contained the Constitution as Section 9
The Commonwealth of Australia Constitution Act 1900 was passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom on 5 July 1900 and received Royal Assent on 9 July 1900. The Act gave effect to the Constitution agreed upon by the Australian colonies through a series of conventions and referendums in the 1890s. It was an Act of the Imperial Parliament, meaning that until the Australia Acts 1986, it could technically be amended by Westminster. The Constitution itself is contained in clause 9 of this Act, while the covering clauses deal with the broader legal framework.
